Cheeseburger with Lettuce, Tomatoes, Sauteed Onions and Mushrooms from Five Guys Burgers and Fries in North Olmsted, Ohio Somehow, Five Guys had eluded me until this point. But last week I was in the area and needed something quick - so I pulled the stereotypical American move and went for a burger. Five Guys has gone huge, nationally, and is often put on close-to-equal footing with Shake Shack and In-N-Out. However, I still prefer Brown Bag Burgers because 1) lower price, 2) more (free) options for add-ons (bacon, guacamole, and fresh pico de gallo to name a few), and 3) it’s local - there’s only one of them. And hell - the burgers are just better. There, I said it. Now I guess I really have to do a post there.

Twisted Brisket Sandwich at Fathead’s Brewery in North Olmsted, Ohio Beef Brisket, BBQ sauce, Cheddar Cheese, a Fried Egg, and Onion crisps. From the Pulled Pork Burrito to the Cuban Sandwich and their smoked Chicken Wings; I’ve come to realize that this place completely dominates when it comes to low-and-slow cooking. And that whole “brewing beer” thing. They’re pretty good at that, too.

The Bay of Pigs Sandwich at Fat Head’s Saloon in North Olmsted, Ohio Cuban Sandwich with Pulled Pork, Ham, Swiss Cheese, Pickles, and Honey Mustard This place boasts award winning beers, sandwiches the size of your head, and homemade potato chips. What’s not to like? As I read the menu, every sandwich sounded better than the one before it; from the Pastrami with a Fried Egg to the #5 Best Sandwich In America (according to Maxim Magazine) which is made up of Kielbasa topped with Fried Pierogies, American Cheese, Grilled Onions, and Horseradish Sauce. We really need to come here much more often.

Mashi Pork Bowl with Pepper Sauce, Fried Rice, Asian Slaw, Scallions, and Sesame Mayo at Mashiso Asian Grille in North Olmsted, Ohio When I walked in, I recognized their set up. It’s Chipotle, basically. Wait in line; pick between burrito or bowl; choose your ingredients; pig out. I really thought this was a chain, and I’m admittedly prejudiced against chain restaurants. But when I looked online, I found out that it’s an independent fast-casual joint using fresh, homemade ingredients. Very cool. My total was $7, and it was totally worth it. Every ingredient in my bowl was awesome. The pork was tender, sauce had a good bite, fried rice was fresh (I watched them make it), slaw was crunchy, and the mayo was maybe the best thing in the bowl. Right now they are 26/26 on Urbanspoon, which is insane. You just have to try this place if you’re in the Cleveland area.
