Yellowtail Sashmi and Salmon & Avocado Roll at Sapporo Sushi in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio
This, along with the Miso soup, was super legit. Free Green Tea, too.
Thanks, Leah, for the suggestion.

Pastrami Over-Stuffed Sandwich at Panini’s in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio
Pastrami, Fried Egg, Provolone, Slaw, French Fries, and Tomato stuffed between thick-cut Italian Bread.
I get one of these after I hit up dollar beer night across the street with my buddies from work. All you have to do is throw on a packet of hot sauce, and this is some of the best drunk food money can buy.
[Yes, I’ve had Primanti Brothers. And yes, for once Pittsburgh is better than Cleveland; I’ll admit it.]

Wheel of Gelato at The Spread Buffet within Horseshoe Casino Cleveland
Flavors include: Cream Caramel, Yoghurt, Coffee, Banana, Tiramisu, Hazelnut, Chocolate, Pistashio, Vanilla, Strawberry, Nutella, and Stracciatella
And from now until the end of September, anyone who earns 25 Tier Credits gets a free buffet. My mom is one of the smallest gamblers I know, and she got to that level pretty easily. Good luck!

EDIT: It has now been extended through October.

Hokkaido Ramen at NoodleCat in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio
Roasted pork, butter, chili oil, corn in a miso-corn broth
After many Sunday Happy Hours here, I’ve gotta say that this is probably my favorite noodle dish on the menu. Rich, but spicy. Plus, it has pulled pork in it - so come on. Corn in soups is always a winner for me (like this one from Zola in Washington DC); and this was no different.

Paella Valenciana at Mallorca in Cleveland, Ohio
Saffron rice, all sorts of shellfish (including heaps of shrimp and a lobster tail), roasted red peppers, sausage slices, and peas.
Didn’t have the soccarat (explained here by the “Paella Professor”) that Paella is supposed to have; but it was still amazing. And when they said they have “generous portions”, they meant it.

Mallorca in the Warehouse District of downtown Cleveland
The best Spanish restaurant in the city - and a staple of the neighborhood since the mid-90’s; when the Warehouse District began over-taking the Flats as “the place to go” in Cleveland.

Lola Combo with Spicy Tomato Bisque and Grilled Cheese Sandwich at Michael Symon’s Lola Bistro in Cleveland, Ohio
I finally made the trek down to the East 4th neighborhood (here’s a picture of what it looks like at night) of downtown to my city’s best restaurant. But being a broke college grad who just signed up to pay his student loans - I went during lunch.
First and foremost, the service is amazing. They have people roaming the room just to fill up water glasses. Take a sip, get a pour - basically. Next time I go, I plan on tallying the number of trips they make to the table.
Secondly, the food. In addition to getting to try what Food & Wine magazine dubbed one of the best grilled cheeses in America, the soup was also amazing. And even though I was sitting among businessmen in suits and ties, you better believe I was dipping one in the other before long. There’s a reason it’s a classic combo.
Not pictured: the Eggnog Panna Cotta with Whiskey Whipped Cream. Sounds like an alcoholic’s Christmas miracle. It was. Huge flavor. Pretty small in size, though.
I played it safe on this trip, but next time I’m throwing caution (and my wallet) to the wind and getting a lot more food. I just have to find something to celebrate, first.

Chipotle Pulled Pork Flatbread Pizza at Chocolate Bar in Cleveland, Ohio
Somehow a small group of my friends picked this place randomly for dinner a few nights ago. It ended up being pretty amazing and definitely worth the trip downtown. Pretty cool atmosphere inside - good amount of people, but not overly crowded.
Obviously I love BBQ(yes, every letter there is a different post I’ve done that has to do with BBQ/Pulled Pork of some sort), and I’m also a poor post-college student. So the $9 Pulled Pork Flatbread was a pretty simple choice. Fortunately everyone at the table got something different, and more importantly: everyone was all about sharing.
The Mac ‘N Cheese (with Prosciutto and Caramelized Onions), the Chocolate Bar Pasta (with a White Chocolate Cream sauce… completely amazing, and not as sweet as you’d think), and the Smokey Grilled Cheese (with Bacon, Tomatoes, and Smoked Gouda) were all very good and I would order any for myself the next time I go. Cleveland people, definitely put this on your list.
